Following a successful meeting in Beijing the Species 2000 China node has been launched.
Frank Bisby and Yuri Roskov met with Professors from the Botany, Zoology and Microbiology Institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and discussed: - Ideas for a Species 2000 China node
- Ideas on whether this could become a 'Catalogue of Life China' (i.e. evolve to complete coverage of groups)
- Ideas on joining Species 2000 and forming an additional regional group alongside Species 2000 europa, ITIS North America, Species 2000 Asia Oceania.
- Ideas on possible funding sources
Discussion progressed well with three CAS institutes interested to take forward the plans for a Chinese taxonomic database hub to be part of the Species 2000 network, and to work both on a 'Catalogue of Life China', and to contribute to the global Catalogue of Life. These plans were made public at the 20th CODATA International Conference in Beijing. Prof. MA (centre) - leader of the Species 2000 China project with Frank Bisby and Dr WU Chunsheng |
